For initial research, I looked at many existing media products in order to see competition and texts from similar genres. I found that they all have similar forms and conventions, and in order for my pieces to look professional, I would need to use, develop and challenge these conventions.
These are some of the conventions that I found whilst researching my genre:
Some of these conventions such as black and white effects, complex narrative and red colours I have taken to use in my video as they represent my genre well and help to tell the story.However some of the conventions I have subverted such as happy endings, bright clothing and lip syncing as I wanted to challenge the music industry.
I have compared my music video, poster and cd cover to the existing media products which I have looked at, establishing the similarities and differences between them. This is all shown in the powerpoints below:
