EVALUATION: QUESTION 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

New media technologies are very important today, more so since the introduction of web 2.0. This changed the way that audiences accessed texts. The consumer can now be the producer, using the new media technologies. This has allowed me to directly address my audience, gaining instant feedback on my production pieces, and connect with a large varied audience. Mass industries are continuously changing the way they run their businesses because of the internet.

I have used the internet for a lot of research and planning. Here are some links to some main sites.

Here is a powerpoint presentation that I have put together to show the new media technologies that I have used in the production of my media texts:

EVALUATION: QUESTION 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I have asked my audience about their opinions during many stages of my production in order to provide the specific requirements that they want. In the creation of my album cover, I asked my audience what they thought about my initial idea. Here is the example, and what they thought of it:

Rachael: I think that the image needs to be in colour, but I like the red font colour as it really hints towards the romantic narrative :)
Izzy: I love the font colours, how they are both different, but joined together! I think the album cover would look better with a bit of colour though!

Having recieved this feedback, I acted upon their words and changed the image into colour and added some effects to it. I also changed the font colour as it did not match, Here was the final copy after the feedback.

Rachael: That's much better! I really like the colours in the photo and the tint of green/blue :)
Izzy: I love how the font colours match the photo, looks really good! :D

I also did this with my Music video. I showed my audience this video, and filmed their responses.

I also showed my video to my target audience, as shown in this photograph:

Here is my finished video, after the feedback. I took on board everything they had said, and tried to change as much as I could to suit their needs.
I also used questionnaires, as part of my planning and research, to see what thier interests were in music, and what they thought a good music video would be. Having this information was very useful, and guided me through the construction of my piece and gave me a more widened variety of ideas to use.

Another audience input that I had was opinions on song choice, and initial ideas. This was very useful as I was able to change my ideas at an early stage, and see if the ideas would appeal to my target audience.

EVALUATION: QUESTION 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

These are my production pieces all together.
I have used similar fonts, colours, mise-en-scene and layout in all 3 media products to produce a house style and link them all together.

Fonts
The font that I used throughout all 3 anciallries was LUCIA SANS. I think that this was a good choice, as its not over complicated and is easy to read. I made the 'Ellen Goulder' part in bold, to make her name stand out as that is the main part in which the audience would be looking for in particular. I used this technique throughout also to catch the viewers eye, and allow them to be able to recognise that they are all advertising the same product.
I posted these onto facebook and asked people what they thought about the fonts.. these were some of the replies which I got..

Colours
The colours that I have used mostly are: Blue, Green and yellow. These colours are really earthy colours, which connotes being outdoors, and in a romantic setting. This was the effect that I was going for. The blue tint can also be seen as a sort of hint that it wont be all good, and there will be some bad times with tears involved. The colours of the fonts were also chosen to match my photographs, which I think they do very well. I also added a small vignette effect to the photographs, with black on the bottom, and white on the top. This links in well with the video, because in the flashback scenes, there is a romantic effect around the edge, where the picture goes blurry. I have used black and white effects also, but only in my video as this connotes sadness, and I was not trying to show sadness, nor happiness through the ancillary tasks. Through doing so, I leave the audience wanting to view the video and see what the narrative is behind the photographs.
I posted these onto facebook and asked people what they thought about the colours.. these were some of the replies which I got..

Mise - en - scene
The mise-en-scene of the products really establishes the link between them all. I think mainly through the use of the bridge, which you can see in all of the products. This bridge is a symbol of thier love, as in the flashback scenes, they are on the bridge most of the time, where they are happy. I think that the fact that the bridge is featured in all 3 of these media products is very effective, especially in the album cover when she is looking straight towards it. I have also included in the album cover, the pathway with the fence, in which the couple walk down and dance along. The fact that she is pictured on her own in the photograph sitting on the same fence highlights that there might have been a split, and creates a sort of enigma before the audience have even watched the video.
I posted these onto facebook and asked people what they thought about the mise-en-scene.. these were some of the replies which I got..

Overall, I think that my products link well together and are all very successful. I posted onto twitter to see what people thought about my pieces all together. These were the replies:

EVALUATION: QUESTION 1

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
For initial research, I looked at many existing media products in order to see competition and texts from similar genres. I found that they all have similar forms and conventions, and in order for my pieces to look professional, I would need to use, develop and challenge these conventions.

These are some of the conventions that I found whilst researching my genre:
Some of these conventions such as black and white effects, complex narrative and red colours I have taken to use in my video as they represent my genre well and help to tell the story.
However some of the conventions I have subverted such as happy endings, bright  clothing and lip syncing as I wanted to challenge the music industry.

I have compared my music video, poster and cd cover to the existing media products which I have looked at, establishing the similarities and differences between them. This is all shown in the powerpoints below:
